Download

Get Loft.

Loft is free on every platform. You also need a Loft gateway at home. If you don't have one yet, set it up first: it takes one command and one QR code.

iPhone and iPad

Loft puts your NAS in the Files app, so Save to Files › Loft works from any app, and adds Save to Loft to the share sheet.

Mac

Loft puts your NAS in the Finder sidebar. Files download when you open them and go back home when you save.

Coming soon.

Android

Loft puts your NAS in the Files app and the system file picker, adds Loft to the share menu, and can upload photos straight to a folder on the NAS.

Google Play or APK? Loft for Android will be on Google Play, and here as an APK for phones without Google Play, or for anyone who'd rather not use it. It's the same app either way, signed by Incremental. If your phone has Google Play, pick that one: it will keep Loft up to date for you. The APK checks this site for updates.

Windows 10 and 11

Loft puts your NAS in File Explorer. Files show up right away and download when you open them.

Coming soon.

Linux

Loft mounts your NAS at ~/Loft. Files are read when you open them, and changes are uploaded in the background. A tray icon shows the status where your desktop supports one.

Loft gateway

Runs at home on Linux, x86_64 or arm64 (a 64-bit Raspberry Pi will do), with Python 3.12 or newer. Debian 13, Ubuntu 24.04 and current Raspberry Pi OS have it. On an older system, use the container.

  • Debian 13 and Ubuntu 24.04: a .deb for x86_64, downloaded from this page. The arm64 package is on its way. → Set up a gateway
  • Container: a multi-arch image, for x86_64 and arm64. → Set up a gateway

Checking for updates

The Mac, Windows and Linux apps, and the Android APK from this site, look for a new version on this site, at most once a day. The Mac app reads loft.incremental.no/appcast.xml, the others loft.incremental.no/releases.json. That request is the only one any Loft app makes to us. It's a plain download of one file: no account, no device ID, nothing about your gateway or your files. At most, it says which app and which version is asking. You can turn it off in the app's settings.

When the Mac app finds a new version, it asks you first, and nothing downloads until you choose to install it. Then it downloads the update from GitHub, checks that it's signed by us, installs it and reopens. Like any download, GitHub sees your IP address and which file you asked for.

The iPhone and iPad app updates through the App Store, and Loft from Google Play updates through Google Play.
